Andrew Hastie MP Federal Member for Canning

As the Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie stands up for the cultural, national and economic security of all Australians.
Andrew was first elected to the House of Representatives at the 2015 by-election for the Division of Canning in Western Australia.

Prior to entering Parliament, Andrew studied Philosophy and History at the University of New South Wales. Andrew joined the Australian Defence Force in 2003, attending the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) and Royal Military College Duntroon. Andrew served as an officer in the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Darwin, and the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) in Perth.

Since entering parliament Andrew has fought to deliver better public services and more job opportunities for the people of Canning. This has included a particular focus on the devastating impact of drug abuse in the local community.

Andrew has served on several parliamentary committees, including the Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, and as Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on the National Capital and External Territories. In 2017 Andrew was appointed as Chair of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security. The Committee has oversight of Australia's intelligence and security agencies and a major role in development of national security laws.

Andrew is married to Ruth and has two young children, Jonathan and Beatrice.
